The following directions have been compiled to assist in the installation of hardwiring a Valentine1 radar detector in a 2001 Maxima. This should work for other years also.

Tools needed: 12V test light, and Drill gun with screwdriver attachment (you'll see what I mean later)

Parts: The Valentine1 includes everything you need to hardwire your radar detector. You will only need the following parts: radar detector, windshield mount, direct-wire power adapter, wiring-harness connector, and the blue wire tap.

Step 1: Using a philips head screwdriver, there are 2 screws you must take out to access the direct power. They are located under the steering column. One is located in the picture.

Step 2: Remove the second screw located in the picture.

Step 3: After taking out the screws, gently tug on the plastic covering. It should come out. You may have to wiggle it a bit just to knock it loose.

Step 4: Here's a picture of what it should looke like when the plastic covering is taken off.

Step 5: Place the radar detector on the windshield clip and stick it to where you want your radar detector to be located. Take the direct power wire and start from the radar detector mount. Run the wire from the mirror into the headliner. The easiest thing to do it to lay the wire flat against the windshield. Take a credit card and tuck the wire into the headliner. This took some time because the wire wasn't so cooperative. Run the wire to the driver side A-Pillar. Make sure you have enough slack for the radar detector.

Step 6: Run the wire down the A-pillar and down the side of the dash. I took a picture of the wire being tucked into the dash.

Step 7: Take the wire and snake it into the fuse box area. Leave the wire there for now. Look for a power source. As you can see from this picture, I took the 12v test light and found a power source. The power source you need should be able to shut off and turn on with the ignition key. I picked this spot but didn't know what this was connected to. I'll find out later what this is connected to.

Step 8: Take the blue fuse tap and put it on this red wire where I found my power source. Close the power tap. You may need to take a pair of pliers to close the tap because the wire was too thick.

Step 9: Get the wiring harness connector with the black spade connector and snake it around the back of the fuse box to this screw. Take a drill with a screwdriver attachment and loosen the bolt. The bolt was tightened by Hercules, this is why you need this screwdriver drill. One this bolt is loosened, put the spade connector into the back of the bolt. You may have to open the spade connector a bit so it can fit. This is the best source for a ground. You can find another ground or ground-wire if you want.

Step 10: Take the wire harness connector and take the backing off the sticky mount. Place the mount on top of the fuse box. Put the end of the direct wire into the wire harness connector. I wrapped the in-line fuse wire around the blue top relay and tucked it in nicely. As you can see by the picture, everything is all nice and neat.

Step 11: Place the radar detector on the windshield mount and start to touch up the loose ends. When you're done, put the plastic pieces back into place, put the screws back into place, start it up and you're done!

Last Picture: You can't even see it from the outside! Enjoy!
